My Gold Prospecting and Mining Pages
Gold fever is a terrible thing

One of my many hobbies is recreational gold prospecting and mining. I've been gold panning, metal detecting and sluicing on my vacations for many years. It's a lot of fun. It's great exercise. I get to do it in really scenic locations, outside in the fresh air and sunshine. I have even found some gold. This page links to accounts of my various adventures in pursuit of the shiny yellow stuff. More will be added in the future.

My home-built recirculating sluice or highbanker How I built a recirculating sluice or highbanker. The evolution of the design from initial idea and crude prototypes, to a finished unit that works great in the field. It is built from inexpensive and easy to obtain materials. Just about anyone could build one and start getting gold.

Construction of a mini recirculating sluice for use in separating gold from incinerated and crushed IC chip e-waste. It was a quick, easy and cheap build that could be done in an hour or two, and it works great.

In this video I use the above home-built mini sluice to separate the gold from some crushed hard-rock gold ore. It works great!

Here is a video I made many years ago. The video is old, but the information is as useful as ever. Everyone should know how to pan for gold. It is a very useful skill.

My home-built gas-powered vacuum cleaner for gold prospecting or mining How I converted a cheap, used wet/dry vacuum, and an old leaf blower into a gas-powered vacuum cleaner for use in gold prospecting/mining. This unit is very useful for vacuuming up gold-bearing dust and dirt off of bedrock and out of crevasses.
