My Lectures on Astronomy

Here you will find many of the Powerpoint presentations I have used during the lectures I have given at The St. Petersburg Astronomy Club meetings and the Pinellas Science Center. Due to popular demand, I am making them available to anyone interested. Some of them may be a bit hard to follow if you haven't attended the lecture. So many people who have attended them have asked for them though, that I am making them available. Click on an image to view or download the presentation.

My lecture on Jupiter This is a lecture I gave a couple of years ago when Jupiter was coming into opposition. There are few notes in this Powerpoint presentation. Most of the lecture consisted of my spoken commentary and an audience Q&A session. The Powerpoint file just contains a few images and tables to be displayed as a backdrop for the talk.

My lecture undebunking the Big Bang This is a lecture I put together to rebut some anti-Big Bang lectures given by other people. For a while, it seemed like everyone was attacking the Big Bang. They were trying hard to discredit and debunk it. Their arguments didn't seem logical to me. So I put together this lecture to debunk their attempted debunking of the Big Bang. It explains the origins of the Big Bang Theory, and what evidence there is to support it. It also pokes holes in some of the most often used arguments of the Big Bang detractors. Without my spoken commentary, you might get a little lost in it in places. People who have actually attended this lecture will probably be the ones who get the most out of reviewing the Powerpoint presentation.

My lecture on supernovae This lecture is about supernova explosions. I explain the different types of supernova explosions, what causes them, their effects, and the remains they leave behind. This Powerpoint presentation has lots of notes in it and would probably be fairly easy to follow even if you haven't attended the lecture. Of course you would not have gotten to hear my spoken commentary, the audience Q&A session, or seen my demonstration of the Astro Blaster supernova physics demonstration toy.

Astronomy Unplugged This lecture is on how to star hop, or use a telescope without resorting to all the fancy electronic bells & whistles that many telescopes come loaded down with today. This Powerpoint presentation may be difficult to follow in places if you haven't attended the lecture. I will try to add some more comments to it in the future to make it easier to follow.
